Book Cover Design

First I selected images of people in the pose I wanted, then I used the select tool to mask them and used the bucket tool to fill them in. I did a similar thing with the moon, except I added some detail with a brush that had low harshness. For the back cover, I selected images that represented the crucible, then I used blend modes to make them look more interesting. Furthermore, I added some detail on the back and front cover by adding an opaque layer of "fog" that I made using the paintbrush tool. Finally, I added the text by using the text tool, I used interesting fonts for the title and name of the author to make them stand out while keeping a simple legible font on the rest of the information.

The easiest part was everything but the front cover because it mainly involved just using images found online. The hardest part was the front cover because I had to make every pilgrim man look different, and not blend in with each other.

I think my project exceeds the standards because I had fun making it, I really like the finished product, and I got a lot of compliments. Moreover, I used a lot of symbolism in my cover design while still trying to use imagery and colors that pop out and would attract the reader.

I decided to make a cover for "The Crucible" because it was the most recent book that I have read, and I found it pretty interesting, I liked the symbolism that the author used for a lot of the play. I also thought it was really interesting that it was written to reflect the red scare of the 1920's.

I used the prominent theme of hysteria for the cover, for example, the moon is used as symbolism for "lunatic" which is what the people at the Salem with trial were, the color red represents the madness of the accusers, white represents the innocence of the people who were accused, the dark cover makes the rest of the designs stand out as well as representing the darkness that enveloped the people of that time. On the back of the cover, there is a lady justice who is blinded and guided by a snake to represent the manipulation that happens in the story.
